I have been using dry shampoo for years and wondering how I survived before this magic potion hit the beauty market! It’s so wonderfully convenient and has been a lifesaver on so many occasions for me! I always think to myself, who wouldn’t want fresh hair for a few more days whilst avoiding the hassle of washing and styling your hair. I find it particularly useful after a lunch break gym visit as you can just add a touch of dry shampoo and arrive back at your desk with lovely fresh hair! I used to be a regular user of Batiste dry shampoo but since I switched my hair routine to all natural products I then had to search out some new alternatives. As many of you will know, this is never an easy task but it was definitely even more difficult this time as it seems finding a good natural dry shampoo is not as easy as I had hoped. For example, just recently I tested one which completely made my roots so sticky that they were impossible to brush, but we won’t dwell on that! Anyway, I think I have finally hit the jackpot with the one I have found from Green & Gorgeous Organics.
This dry shampoo is not only vegan but also Paraben, Sulfate, Perfume and Talc free. I have been using it for almost 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it! It’s a totally natural product made from oil absorbing Organic Arrowroot, Organic Brown Rice Powder and White Clay while one of the natural worlds stalwarts, Baking soda, acts as a deodorant and essential oil adds a lovely fresh scent. Another ingredient of note is organic Horsetail powder which is known for its high silica content and is commonly used to help hair grow and to strengthen hair. The product itself is a greyish sandy, finely milled powder which comes in what I can only describe as a kind of salt packaging with small gaps. The essential oil scent is very nice, a lovely blend of lavender and bergamot. It’s really easy to apply as I just sprinkle the powder on my roots and massage into my scalp and wait for few minutes. I then brush my roots with the little kabuki brush which comes with it (as a side note this is possibly the softest thing I have ever come across) and style my hair as usual. The product blends really nicely with no white chalky residue left behind even in my reasonably dark hair. It leaves my hair looking fresh and adds volume and texture and leaves a clean fresh nice smell. I apply this product every time I want to extend the amount of time needed between washes by a day or two. This is of course its primary function but sometimes I use it just to add some volume on the days when my hair fancies staying as flat as a pancake for no good reason.
As always there is a downside and for this product the downside is the price tag. It’s quite expensive at $29.99 but as you really don’t need much for each use it means it will last a long long time. Also the ingredient list is totally clean compared to what you find in supermarket and this quality invariably pushes the price up. I always found that with the Batiste dry shampoo I would have to buy loads of bottles and even though it’s cheap the product disappeared so fast that I kept having to rebuy them and spending nearly as much without noticing, which ultimately is a false economy. One thing I really like is that it also comes in a small size which is very convenient to take with you when you travel for a weekend or go to a festival and often just can’t wash your hair while you’re there.
So after finding this product I am starting to question once again why we can’t get rid of the dry shampoos full of harmful preservatives and chemicals and replace them with natural alternatives like this that do the same job but are healthy for your scalp too^^. The Lavender & Bergamot Organic Dry shampoo is available on the Green & Gorgeous Organics website so let me know if you try it out and what you think!
