Around a month ago I was contacted by Dawn De La Fuente the founder of S/He Studio, a natural brand that handcrafts organic skincare, bodycare and haircare products. All the products are made using highly quality ingredients as Dawn truly believes in plant medicine and natural products and is a well respected herbalist in the San Francisco area. I had no previous knowledge of her brand but as soon as I saw her products I started to salivate over them just from the packaging alone. I really love her website too so I was super excited when I received the trio of products she sent for me to test out. So over the last month I have been using them and I finally feel ready to give a little insight into what I have found.
Horsetail Hair Tonic – By now you must know about my obsession with growing my hair. I keep talking about vegetable oils that help this quest on my social media and my blog posts. So I was very happy to see that I received a product based on horsetail as I have heard only great things about this herb but have not got around to trying it yet! Horsetail is known to promote hair growth and is rich in silica and minerals which help strengthen weak, brittle and damaged hair. This hair tonic also contains nourishing jojoba oil and a blend of Sage, Cedarwood and Rosemary essential oils. This mixture helps increase blood circulation to your scalp which treats hair loss and scalp problems particularly itching and dandruff. In my opinion s\he have chosen a wonderful combination of ingredients, especially for summer as your hair gets so fragile due to sun overexposure. This hair tonic can be used as a wonderful scalp treatment; massage 1-2 dropperfuls into your roots and throughout your hair for 10 min and then leave it overnight to get the maximum benefit. If however you don’t like sleeping with oil on your hair just leave it in for at least an hour but preferably more. It seems so obvious to me now that you can’t have healthy hair without a healthy scalp. I used to really neglect massaging and exfoliating my scalp but since I started taking care of it I have seen a massive difference in terms of both quality and hair growth. After use you will have noticeably softer hair and much brighter shine the next day. You can also use this oil as a leave in; apply 2-3 drops over hair ends 3-4 times a week to prevent split ends.
Face Exfoliant – As is often the case the first thing I noticed about this product is how gorgeous it smells, if you like lavender you will love it. It feels like I’m in a field of lavender in Provence, I couldn’t stop sniffing it! Exfoliant products have always been part of my skincare routine as they get rid of dead skin and give you a healthy glow! This one is a powdered exfoliant and mask all in one with a beautiful blend of organic ingredients; oat flour, bladderwrack seaweed, arrowroot powder, lavender flower, rosehip and green tea extract. I have only tested it as an exfoliant for the moment and used it three times a week after cleansing my face. If you have sensitive skin I would probably recommend you using it only twice weekly. It’s really easy to use, all you need to do is just dampen your face with warm water, pour a small amount of the product into your palms and then mix it with few drops of water to form a paste (don’t add too much water or your paste will be too wet), apply on your face and neck, massage in circular motion and then rinse off with warm water. I genuinely noticed the difference in the feel and look of my skin from the first use. It is not harsh at all on the skin and is suitable for sensitive skin types thanks to its nourishing and anti-inflammatory formula. This is a very gentle but effective exfoliant that leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth and fresh. It doesn’t feel tight afterwards either like other scrubs I’ve tried before. I have been using it now for a month and my skin tone seems much brighter. This facial exfoliant will last you a long time too as you only need a small amount so great value for money!
Body scrub – Say hello to a full soft body! Yes this is what you will get with this product. This body scrub is a blend of amazing organic ingredients. First and most prevalent is a relaxing and soothing sea salt which makes a great exfoliating particle. The scrub also contains a purifying bentonite clay which draws out impurities. There is bladderwrack seaweed that helps cleanse the skin of toxins while coconut and jojoba oils moisturise. Included in the scrub are three essentials oils which when combined together are emotionally uplifting and grounding; Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and Palmarosa. This mix gives a very nice smell, which I was surprised about as usually I dislike the smell of ylang ylang, but the 3 of them together smells heavenly. When I shower I like to start by letting the water run over my skin for 5 min to soften it before I start exfoliating my body. S/he studio advised me to gently scrub in a circular motion from feet to heart, hands to heart and finish off going from neck to heart. This practice not only exfoliates and nourishes the skin but it also stimulates the lymphatic system and soothes nerves. Be gentle when scrubbing however ensuring not to damage your skin. I like the fact that this scrub is not too oily, it is a great balance between moisturizing ingredients and exfoliating ingredients, as I find that lots of the body scrubs that I have tried before just turn your shower to a dangerously slippy place to be. This scrub makes me feel so relaxed and calm and it has fully taken its place in my weekly body routine, my skin feels so nice. I can’t repeat this enough but exfoliation is key to beautiful skin!
